Il Palazzone di Cortona
The conference will take place at the historical villa "Palazzone di Cortona" of the Scuola Normale Superiore.
The Palazzone is not a hotel, but rather a property of the Scuola Normale Superiore. It is a historic building and, as such is subject to specific regulations. One of these, on Sunday, the day of arrival, provides a special welcome service for guests staying at the Palazzone, with the following hours: 4:00 PM to 6:45 PM.
It is important to know that access to the Palazzone, its streets, gardens, and avenues is not permitted before 4:00 PM. Luggage storage is not available.
On Friday, September 11th, the Palazzone will close immediately after lunch.
Reaching Cortona and the Palazzone
Il Palazzone di Cortona is conveniently accessible by both air and rail. The nearest international airports are Florence Airport (approximately 120 km away) and Rome Fiumicino Airport (approximately 230 km away), both offering regular train connections to Camucia–Cortona (3 km) or Terentola-Cortona (7 km) stations via Florence or Rome. Both stations offer bus and taxi connections to Cortona. By car, the closest A1 highway exit is Val di Chiana (20 km). After the exit one can follow the signs for "Il Palazzone".
To reach Cortona, a shuttle runs approximately every hour from Camucia station (“CAMUCIA STAZIONE”) to Cortona, Piazza Garibaldi, where Hotel San Luca is located. The timetable is available HERE. Please note that, for the arrival day, you should refer to the “FESTIVO” timetable, while if you are leaving on Friday, the relevant timetable is “FERIALE ESCLUSO IL SABATO”. The same shuttle service also stops at Terontola station (“TERONTOLA STAZIONE”). From the center of Cortona, the Palazzone is about 1.5 km away, but unfortunately, it is not served by public transportation.
